Getting Started with Ledger®
Official Site® | Ledger.com/Start®
Welcome to the official starting point for setting up your Ledger® hardware wallet. Ledger® offers industry-leading security for managing your cryptocurrencies. Whether you’ve purchased the Ledger Nano X, Nano S Plus, or another Ledger device, this guide will walk you through the setup process step by step.
Step 1: Visit the Official Site
To begin securely, go to the official Ledger® website at Ledger.com/Start. This page ensures that you download the correct software and avoid counterfeit products or phishing sites. Always verify the URL and avoid using links from third parties.
Step 2: Download Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official app used to set up, manage, and secure your crypto assets. Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, it allows you to:
- Install crypto apps on your device
- Create or recover a wallet
- Send and receive crypto
- Manage over 5,500 digital assets securely
Click “Download Ledger Live” on the Ledger.com/Start page and follow the installation instructions for your device.
Step 3: Set Up Your Device
Once Ledger Live is installed:
- Connect Your Device: Use the included USB cable to connect your Ledger wallet to your computer or mobile phone.
- Initialize Your Device: Follow on-screen prompts to choose “Set up as new device” or “Restore from recovery phrase.”
- Create a PIN Code: You’ll be asked to set a PIN (4 to 8 digits) directly on the device. This PIN helps protect access to your wallet.
- Write Down Your Recovery Phrase: Ledger will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. This is the only backup of your private keys. Write it down on the recovery sheet provided and store it securely—never share it online or with anyone.
Step 4: Confirm Your Recovery Phrase
To ensure you’ve recorded the recovery phrase correctly, the device will ask you to confirm some of the words. This step is essential for security and cannot be skipped.
Step 5: Install Apps and Add Accounts
Return to Ledger Live:
- Navigate to the Manager tab to install apps for specific cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
- After installing the app, go to Accounts to add wallets for each crypto.
- Once added, you can view balances, send and receive funds, and monitor your portfolio directly from Ledger Live.
Step 6: Stay Secure
- Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for it.
- Enable device lock and password for Ledger Live if available.
- Bookmark Ledger.com to avoid phishing attacks.
- Regularly update your Ledger firmware and Ledger Live app for security improvements.
With your Ledger wallet fully set up, you're now in control of your digital assets. For additional support, tutorials, or troubleshooting, always refer to Ledger.com/Start or contact Ledger Support through official channels.
